Let me try to be more objective: writing is a solitary act. I need to feel alone to write, even if there are lots of people around me. I need to be focused. I need to be by (and with) myself. The same thing happens with reading. It is impossible to read – really read – and have someone talking to you, or the TV on, or playing guitar. Reading and writing both require solitude.

Vou tentar ser mais objetiva: escrever é um ato solitário. Ainda que haja pessoas ao redor, o ato da escrita exige concentração, exige cumplicidade com as palavras, com os personagens e, para isso, a dedicação tem de ser exclusiva. Com o ato de leitura ocorre o mesmo: é impossível ler – de verdade – e conversar com alguém ao mesmo tempo, ou assistir televisão, tocar violão... Tanto ler quanto escrever exigem solidão.
